Merl Dale Lively entered the gates of Heaven on December 19, 2019. He was born on July 17, 1939 in Muskogee to Floyd and Lorene Lively. He was raised in Ft. Gibson and graduated high school in 1959.

He joined the Armed Forces in April of 1963. He served in Germany before getting discharged in 1965. In 1967 he married Sherry Hardy from Muskogee and had 3 kids in their 13-year marriage. Merl was a draftsman most of his working career. In 1993 he met and married Ethel Viola Swearigen. Between them they have 6 adult children. Daughter Teresa Lively of Okay, Ok; Son Chris and Michelle Lively of Corinth, Tx; Daughter Stacey and Dewayne Fain of Broken Arrow, Ok; Daughter Hanna and Kenny Garell of Tulsa, Ok; Daughter Mary and Randall Bass of Washburn, Mo; Son Donnie and Denae Swearigen of Osage, Ok

They have 15 grandkids and 15 great grandkids,

Merl has 4 living siblings: Brother Jimmy and Kay Lively of Temple, Tx; Brother Eddie and Sandra Lively, Ok; Brother JR and Jeanette Lively of Okay, Ok; Sister Joyce and Smoky Russel of Broken Arrow, Ok.

Preceding his death is his Ethel, both parents, 2 brothers, and 2 grandsons and one great grandson. Merl enjoyed hunting and fishing and watching birds. Every year he would hang up his birdhouses and wait for the purple martins to arrive. HE LOVED HIS BIRDS! He was adamant about keeping the bird feeder over half full. He was often teased about having the fattest birds on the block. Merl loved eating fried catfish and chicken and any sweets he could get his hands on. He would often hide butter scotch candy in his pockets. Merl got ordained in 2001 and everyone he met would tell them about Jesus and how vital it was to know Him and not just know of him. After every prayer he prayed he would end it with “it’s a done deal”. He was a man of God and trusted and served Him with everything within him. Merl loved his family, friends, church and his little dog jellybeans. Merl loved to laugh and he loved to make people laugh. He was loved by many. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten
